March Club Day
Sunday 30th March 2008 (Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club)
With the rain gods out in force and Dylan's past performances in the wet we approached the club day with the hope of building on our early races and getting yet another good result.
Starting in ninth place for Heat 1, Dylan quickly jumped to eighth and rapidly set about chasing down Timothy Edwards in seventh. Setting some very quick sector times, Dylan looked set for a good race. Unfortunately just as he was setting himself up for a pass on Timothy an electrical glitch caused the engine to cut out and forced his retirement. Tracing the glitch to a crack in the insulation in the wiring the ignition module we patched it up and set ourselves for Heat 2.
In seventh for Heat 2 and with the problem from Heat 1 fixed we hoped for better luck. Unfortunately some exceptional generosity by the starter, three karts that had stopped on track were given some half a dozen roll-around laps to get restarted. With the wet and humid conditions the extended time at low speed resulted in almost the entire field being eliminated by due to fouled plugs. The most disappointing element of the decision by the starter was that the karts that the field was held for never ended up getting started.
As a result of the farce that occurred in Heat 2, we decided to pack-up and leave in part due to our irritation and in part as a protest against the decisions made.
