February Club Day
Sunday 24th February 2008 (Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club)
With no real pre-season testing we approached the Club Day as essentially a shakedown for the upcoming season.
Starting Heat 1 in eleventh place Dylan made a solid start gaining one place in the first lap to move into tenth. Locked into a tight midfield group comprising of Timothy Edwards, Andrew Trathen, Tony Monks and Madeline Norris; Dylan slowly inched his way forward into ninth place. Though still lapping almost 7 tenths a second off his best times from last year, it proved a satisfying start to what is surely going to be a challenging season.
Starting Heat 2 second grid, our lack of practice over the preseason came to the fore as due to a lack of setup and race fitness caused Dylan to slowly slip back through the field to finish in eighth place.
Courtesy of his two mid pack finishes Dylan started heat three in seventh, with a solid start Dylan was able to hold position on the first lap. Unfortunately he slipped back to eighth on lap two, but from then on had an uneventful and somewhat lonely race finishing some 4.5 seconds ahead of ninth place but 2 seconds behind seventh. On the upside with the track time garnered during Heats 1 & 2 Dylan was able to get his times back down to end Heat 3 lapping in the low 42's. Additionally courtesy of his three solid finishes Dylan was able to walk away from the weekend with yet another 'C' Grade trophy.
