July Club Day
Sunday 29th July 2007 (Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club)
Following a two month break from karting during which he turned 18, Dylan returned to the track for the Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club July Club Day and faced one of the smaller Clubman Light fields in recent months, though lacking in numbers it was not lacking in quality.
Greeted by a 6 degree C morning and an ice cold track, our lack of track time came through when Dylan was plagued by what could best be described as a comedy of errors during the first heat. Jumped at the start with a miss-tuned carburetor Dylan dropped to eighth before he was able to correct the tuning, no sooner had he corrected that when he started to suffer with a fogging visor which severely restricted his visibility and with less than 2 laps to go Dylan began to suffer from a loosening steering wheel which caused him to hit a ripple strip bending a sprocket and carrier forcing his retirement.
Having repaired the damage, Dylan headed out for Heat 2 in 7th place on the grid. Involved in a race long battle for 6th place with Simon Bysouth (29B), Dylan was able to take the honors by a mere 0.1s after a moment in the last corner.
Heat 3 proved to be a lonely race for Dylan, after grabbing 6th place on the first corner he was able to pull a comfortable 4 second gap on his chaser but due to a setup error was unable to close on the leaders, finishing 3.5 seconds behind the fight for 3rd, 4th and 5th.
While it was a mixed return to the track for Dylan, he did succeed in accumulating sufficient points during the weekend to move into 10th place in the Club Championship standings.
