Victorian Country Series Round 3

Sunday 13th May 2007 (South West Kart Club)

At the suggestion of Steve Polak (Melbourne Kart Centre) we packed our bags and headed of to Cobden for Round 3 of the Victorian Country Series and for those unfamiliar with Cobden it is located in the far east of Victoria some 250km from our home track.

Arriving on the 12th we hastily prepped the kart, underwent scrutineering and hit the track for a quick test session. Having settled on what seemed a good race setup we eagerly looked forward to the racing on Sunday.

The morning of the 13th brought with it a cold a foggy start to the day and following the usual pre-race routines of briefings and carburetor sessions we launched into our first race of the day. Unfortunately it seemed that we had brought our luck with us and on the second corner Dylan was unceremoniously clipped from behind and sent out of the race.

With no damage to the kart, Dylan launched into the second race with a vengeance. Starting in 6th place, he moved his way into a comfortable 4th place and looked set to record an outstanding result at a track he’d never before visited. Unfortunately napping flag marshals failed to blue flag competitors he was coming up to lap and caught in the traffic Dylan lost the drag race to the line to finish in 5th place. It was nonetheless an extremely strong result at a track he’d never driven at before.

Starting the final in 14th place, Dylan had moved into the top 10 when he was taken out by two Tony Karts rejoining the track following an off-field excursion. The incident which caused significant damage in from of a broken stub axle, tie-rod, side pod and nose cone; resulted in a sour end to an otherwise positive meet.
