Central City Series Round 1

Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th March 2007 (Oakleigh Go-Kart Racing Club)

Day 1 of the Central City Series - Round 1 dawned on the 24th March with dark skies and torrential rain, less than ideal conditions but ones that Dylan has generally reveled in.

Drawn to start Heat 1 in position 21 in a full grid field of 32 karts, and with only 8 laps to make an impression Dylan charged through the pack in the most trying of conditions to finish in 11th with lap times less than 0.2s of the eventual heat winner.

With the track rapidly drying prior to the reverse grid Heat 2, a mad rush began to switch setup from wet to dry. Starting position 11, Dylan fell back a couple of positions in the first two laps but recovered in the second half of the race to climb back into 11th by the final lap. In a drag race to the finish line Dylan was able to hold out Christopher Pratt by a mere 0.3s hold 11th place.

With the day’s racing over and the goal of cracking the top 10 for the Pre-Final achieved, we retired for the night and eagerly awaited the following day’s racing.

The morning of the 25th brought with it perfect race weather and a fast track. Starting in 10th for the Pre-Final Dylan looked set to reinforce the good form he’d been showing with another strong performance.

Getting off to a great start Dylan rapidly moved his way up the field to 7th place by the end of the first lap. However on the second corner of lap 4, while in the fight for 6th place he was hit from behind by Nicholas Lakasas (2C) and was sent off the track narrowly missing a tire barrier, ending his Pre-Final.

Relegated to start in 26th position as a result of the Pre-Final DNF (Did Not Finish), Dylan faced an up hill battle to finish in a strong position. Unfortunately his race did not survive the second corner when having past 3 karts in the first corner he was forced to stop following a three kart accident that temporally blocked the track.

Despite the disappointment, Dylan was able to demonstrate strong pace (though not luck) in both wet and dry conditions.
